- Ousmane Faty Ndongo, ANAFA’s Executive Secretary, was bestowed with the title of Ashoka Fellow in June 2008 for his innovative social entrepreneurship with the Alf@net Project.
- Launching of Alf@net’s website.
- Participation in the panel "ICT and Literacy," held in Bamako, Mali, at the behest of the BREDA/UNESCO “Regional Conference on Literacy in Africa.”
- Localization of AbiWord
- Localization of Mozilla Firefox 2.
- Presentation of the Alf@net Project at Niamey, Niger, on the occasion of FORIENF, organized by the CECI.
- Development of a new Alf@net courseware tutorial, based on Adobe Captivate, in five national languages and with the support of OCIWA.
- A training program is put in place by Alf@net, in collaboration with the NGO CRESP (Yoff, Dakar), to train more than 60 newly literate women in computer use. This training lasted until march, 2007.
- Alf@net was presented at the University Cheikh Anta Diop (II) on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of Cheikh Anta Diop.
- Beginning of Mozilla Firefox 1.5 localization.
- The Canadian NGO CECI undertakes to fund ANAFA and the Alf@net Project; delegates Dominique Rochefort to ANAFA as part of the Uniterra program.
- Localization of the online editorial software SPIP.
- Forty-three neo-literate candidates were trained to use computers in Wolof in some ANAFA’s regional offices: Dakar, Thiès, Louga, Saint-Louis and Koungheul.
- The idea was to build an Alf@net courseware tutorial, using Adobe Acrobat, to train users of Windows programs.
- Ousmane Faty Ndongo undertook a training at the University of Quebec, Montreal (UQAM), Canada, to research how to develop courseware tutorials for multi-media software.
- OXFAM Great Britain funds the Alf@net Project, Phase I.
- A written proposal of the Alf@net Project was submitted to OXFAM Great Britain.
- As a representative of the CONGAD, Ousmane Faty Ndongo introduces his research on the theme “Development projects for cultural resources.” This was on the occasion of a joint project between the World Bank and the Senegalese Ministry of Culture.
- Official birth of the Alf@net Project.
- Ousmane Faty Ndongo undertakes a study on the theme “Multilingualism and multimedia in adult education.” This study was presented at a forum on innovations in literacy, organized in Dakar by BREDA and the University of Pennsylvania.
- In preparation for CONFINTEA (Hamburg, ‘97), BREDA/UNESCO contacted ANAFA, as part of a study on literacy and new technologies. Ousmane Faty Ndongo, who had published previously on the topic for AALAE (’93), to undertake research on the theme : “Adult education for a future society of sustainable learning." The eleventh recommendation in this study became the cornerstone of this on-going alf@net project.
